In many European countries, among them Spain, the law favours the production of electrical energy by cogeneration and from renewable or waste sources like biogas, biomass, organic waste, thermal or photovoltaic energy, wind energy, geothermal energy or hydraulic energy.

This type of plant has a regulated feed-in tariff for the electrical energy generated, granted for a given period of time. Return of investment of the projects is very attractive taking into consideration their low risk. The strength of the projects facilitates obtaining funds from financing entities and the equity can also be reduced by means of third party subordinated debt.
